I created this site a little while back as a simple Wiki to help me to remember all the things I was learning about Lindy-Hop. Well, it soon became bigger, with more people contributing, so I've expanded it somewhat.
The Wiki pages are still there (and we're still adding to them all the time) from the Wiki button above.
There's now also pages for swing music, strolls, related concepts & links, and anyone can register and edit or add to those pages.
So please, have a look around and feel free to add or suggest as you wish.
So, I decided that whilst I have a lot of swing music in my collection, it’s actually a lot of tracks by only a small amount of artists. But how to expand that collection when you don’t know of any other artist’s names?

In the past, I’ve followed discussions about ‘refusers’ and all the various reasons for turning down a dance, not to mention whether it’s ever acceptable to do so. That was all in Modern Jive based discussions and I assumed that it would carry over into all dance types, so far that certainly seems to be the way. However, now that I have health issues, it has given me a new perspective on it all, so I thought that maybe it’s time to revisit the subject.
So, given that we mix and match styles from past eras in what we wear nowadays; why is it that some people get all snooty about mixing styles from the 20s to the 50s when you go to a vintage event?
I mean, do they honestly think that in the 40s, no-one would ever wear styles or fashions from earlier periods? Did our generation invent that and actually, in the past everyone just threw away all their clothes as fashions changed?
It's just one of the little things that irritates me about people :) . Just stop judging each other on authenticity when you weren't actually there and the only evidence of what people wore that you've seen are old pictures and adverts. If you must judge people at all, why not judge people on how good they look in what they're wearing? :p
This is an old film (1941), much adored by the Lindy-Hop community not least of all because several of the dance’s most well-known historic figures have a dance scene in it (the Harlem Congaroo dancers, including William Downes, Frances “Mickey” Jones, Norma Miller, Billy Ricker, Al Minns, Willa Mae Ricker, Frankie Manning and Ann Johnson), but that’s only a small part of the film. Actually, I wonder how many dancers have watched the film all the way through?
Well, after a little while off-line, I've moved the site onto a new platform, combining the Wiki with some better CMS functionality.
Also, I've been off for a while. Due to ill health I won't be dancing anywhere near as much as I used to, but I will try to keep the site up to date. Maybe this'll give me a chance to get the content up to scratch!
