Controlled English (CE) is a technique in Technical Writing which restricts the author with a set of rules and sometimes, a restricted vocabulary.
Traditionally used by the Aerospace industry, CE ensures consistent use of terminology, grammar and structuring.
For example, CE rules could ensure that "widget" is the only acceptable term for a widget and that "dongle" and "thingy" are never to be used.
CE could also rule that "replace" means to fit a new item and that "refit" must be used if the meaning is to put the old item back.
iHelp has developed a set of flexible rules and vocabularies for companies wishing to standardise and improve their information.
Our iCE guidelines and vocabularies can be used exactly as they are, or they can be tailored to your specific needs.
